The Association of Japanese Language Teachers in Switzerland was founded on June 11, 1993 with the aim of improving the quality of Japanese teaching in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Seminars are organized as further education for this purpose.

The main activity of our association is to organize two seminars each year, one in spring and the other in autumn. We appreciate very much that the Embassy of Japan in Switzerland and the Japan Foundation support our seminars.

Non-members can also take part in these seminars.

Personal contacts between teachers can result from these seminars. Information and questions can be exchanged. A network is built through these contacts and this is especially significant for those teachers, who live and teach in remote places being confronted with their problems alone.

Thanks to the cooperation from the Japan Foundation, other culture centers in Europe and the JICC (Japan Information and Cultural Center), we are able to provide our members with teaching materials and information, which are otherwise difficult to obtain.

In order to guarantee the best possible usage of our library we have developed a unique lending system. Most of the books have been donated by the Japan Foundation.

A seminar report is published after each seminar. Also, the newsletter of the association “Kôryû” is published once a year.

A study group is working on a textbook for bilingual children. The first volume was published with a support of the Japan Foundation.
